Horsham pre-school supports children of key workers - in pictures

St. Mary’s Pre School in Horsham has stayed open to care for the children of key workers.

A large proportion of the time is now spent outdoors either at the main pre-school, which has a good outdoor space, or in the forest school location, to reduce the likelihood of spreading infection, a spokeswoman said. Being outside also helps build a strong, healthy immune system and the children are getting plenty of physical exercise, she added.

At the main pre school, activities have been adapted to the lockdown, for example having separate gloop trays for each child and following other government hygiene guidelines. Even with the small number of children, they follow the usual pre-school routine which includes music time with instruments or dancing, story times and learning Spanish. The staff are also keeping in touch with the children who are not currently able to attend by posting pictures and videos and through the learning journal system they use. They also post links giving parents and carers ideas, songs and stories on Facebook. Many families have posted pictures of what they have been doing at home including the activities suggested, such as plant bashing, egg dying for Easter, making a bow and arrow for St. George’s day and planting the seeds which the pre school sent them through the post.
