The company, RapidPPE2go, believes it is one of the first vending machines to be launched.

Tristan Matthews, managing director, said: “The idea came about when my business partner Lauren noticed an abundance of people getting onto public transport and going about their daily activities without any face coverings – before these were made compulsory on public transport – potentially spreading the virus.

“We wanted to find a way to drive down the R number as quickly as possible.

“We saw face masks and hand sanitiser vending machines as an innovative and effective way of doing this.

“We want to make masks easily accessible, convenient and cost effective for as many people as possible.”

Mr Matthews said the vending machine is being installed in the next ten days or so.

Should sales prove successful, he said it may be rolled out across more shopping centres and public spaces.

He added: “Our plan was to build a network of reputable suppliers to ensure we could provide the highest quality product at the most affordable price possible.

Coronavirus is spread when droplets are sprayed into the air when infected people talk, cough or sneeze. Those droplets can then fall on surfaces. Face masks can help reduce the spread from people who are contagious but have no symptoms or are yet to develop symptoms. This is called asymptomatic or pre symptomatic transmission.

“In our machines you will find KN95 respirator face masks individually wrapped, durable neoprene respiratory face masks with valve, three Ply disposable protective face masks in a pack of ten, three Ply disposable protective face masks individually wrapped, SaniHands antibacterial hand wipes and Dettol antibacterial Aloe Vera hand gel in 50ml bottles.”

He said the business, which was formed to provide essential products to the general public to help fight the spread of Covid-19, is planning on selling the products people will find in the machines on its website: www.rapidppe2go.co.uk.

RapidPPE2go also supplies businesses with hand sanitiser stations, ideal for entrance areas to protect staff and customers.
