A-level results: Steyning Grammar Sixth Form College

More than 50 per cent of grades were A*-B at A Level, with particular attainment in sciences, maths, English and humanities.

With 99 per cent of the 274 students obtaining a pass mark, this is the fourth consecutive year the sixth form has achieved this.

Almost a quarter of students – 24 per cent – got an A or A* grade and 52 per cent achieved at least a B.

In 30 of the sixth form’s A level subjects, the pass rate was 100 per cent.

Headteacher, Nick Wergan said: “Sixth form exams are tough qualifications – our students have shown the grit and growth mind-sets needed to be successful, guided by excellent teaching and support staff.

“It requires a great team effort, from students, home and school, for a sixth form of our size to perform with consistent excellence like this, and I am grateful to all for meeting our high expectations.

“As ever, it is the way our students achieve as well as what they achieve that impresses me – and I thank them all for the zest and curiosity they have put into being such fantastic Steyning Grammar role models.”

Five students attained 4 or more A* and A grades; Rosie Dommett who is progressing to the University of Sheffield having gained one A* and four A grades, to read physics and astrophysics, Amy Haeffner who will study medical sciences at the University of Exeter with four A grades and one A*, Ben O’ Brien with four A* grades has been accepted for physics with theoretical physics at Imperial College London and Calum White with three A*s and one A grade will go to the University of Oxford to study physics.

Jocelyn Francis with three A*s and one A grade will be studying psychology at Bristol University.
