GCSEs: Hurstpierpoint pupils ‘justly rewarded’ for their efforts

Final statistics will await the usual round of re-marks but overall the percentage of A* grades rose again to 30 per cent of all grades and 31 pupils achieved at least ten A*/A grades.

Particularly outstanding results were attained in the separate sciences: 95 per cent, 91 per cent and 83 per cent A*/A grades were awarded for Physics, Biology and Chemistry respectively.

This year, in addition to their Mathematics GCSE exams, 45 students also took a level 2 certificate in Further Mathematics, achieving 89 per cent A*/A grades.

Headmaster Tim Manly praised all the pupils for their hard work and determination to succeed.

He said: “This year’s Fifth Form pupils have been a delightful group who have been justly rewarded for all their efforts, both academic and otherwise.

“In particular, as we celebrate 20 years of girls in the Senior School, it is marvellous to see just what a great contribution they make to all aspects of school life.

“The girls in this year group, which is pretty evenly mixed, produced an astounding 74.5 per cent A*/A.

“We have come a long way over the years and I want to pay tribute to both the girls and the boys for what they have achieved and how they have achieved it.

“We are not an aggressively selective or de-selective school and I am delighted with these results; the pupils and their parents should feel rightly proud.

“I look forward to seeing them and our new intake of just under 60 students when they start their Sixth Form life at Hurst next week.”
