They are celebrating their hugely impressive results; 98.4 per cent A* to C grade passes, 50 per cent of which were A* and A grades.

The pupils’ excellent results contradict media predictions of low GCSEs nationally because of recently introduced linear exam courses and huge course changes in subjects such as English.

Headmistress Clare Trelfa said: “Once again Towers girls have done us and themselves proud. We are delighted with their results; they are a credit to the school.

“Their excellent achievements are due to their own diligence, their dynamic and committed teachers and the unfailing support of their parents. We wish them the very best of luck as they move on to the next stage of their education.”
