Jamiroquai’s ‘cosmic’ Lambo goes on sale

An ultra-rare Lamborghini owned by Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay has appeared for sale – for an other-worldly £549,995.

The bright purple Diablo SE30 is one of only 16 right-hand-drive models built and featured in the video for the group’s hit Nineties single Cosmic Girl.

While the video also featured a pair of spectacular Ferraris – a 355 and an F40 – the Lamborghini was the only one actually owned by the renowned petrolhead and car collector.

He bought it while the video was being made after the original star car – another Diablo SE30 – was written off in a crash. As he revealed on Top Gear last year the replacement car also suffered a mishap and much of the video was shot with the car’s windscreen missing.

The Diablo was built from 1990 to 2001 and was the last Lamborghini produced before the Italian supercar firm was bought by Audi. Its striking looks and 5.7-litre naturally aspirated V12 made it one of the iconic poster cars of the 1990s.

This particular model was sold to Jay Kay by Amari Supercars in Preston in 1996 and the dealer is once again handling the sale, through Auto Trader, after acquiring it from a collector in Germany.

Auto Trader Car’s Editor, Andy Pringle, said, “You’ll often find rare, exotic and famous cars on Auto Trader, but it’s not every day you’ll find one from hyperspace.

“One of three classic supercars used in the Cosmic Girl video – it’s the only one that the ‘Space Cowboy’ actually owned – so although it might price-out most music fans at over half a million pounds – there could be a love affair reunited on the cards if Jay Kay’s browsing Auto Trader this week.”

If you’ve got a spare half million kick around and fancy recreating that famous video you can check out the advert here.
