Rare cars from the Bologna museum
We have Audi to thank for the Museo Lamborghini. When the German company bought Lamborghini in 2001 it decided the purchase needed a celebration, and what better way to celebrate than to look back on the iconic cars that had led to that point.
The two-storey museum is beside the factory, where every car has been made since production started in 1963. The museum has a model of every car made and several that ever only made it to prototype. Join us on a trip round the museum in all its metallic and carbonfibre glory. 1966
This is the second of three prototypes, although the first has since been destroyed. Designed by Bertone, the Miura set the supercar shape for years to come. Got to love the eyelashes.
1991 Lambo F1
The 700bhp F1 was designed and built totally in house, for Lamborghini’s only season in F1. Although it finished seventh in it s first race, the USA Grand Prix, with Eric van de Poele, the rest of the season was less successful.
Based on the Aventador, the Reventon was inspired by the F22 Raptor fighter jet. With a 6.5-litre V12, the Reventon made 641bhp and could go over 211mph. Only 20 examples were made.
2011 Aventador LP 700-4 rolling chassis
The rolling chassis reveals the structural layout of the carbonfibre tub, all of it made entirely in house. Front and rear aluminium sections are attached to the 147.5kg central cell.
2015 Huracan LP 580-2
This rear-wheel drive model is 33kg lighter than the four-wheel drive V10 Huracan.
2012 Gallardo Super Trofeo LP570-4
The Gallardo raced in Lamborghini’s one-make series, the racer based on the road car, with a 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 giving 562bhp. The bodywork could exert 160kg of downforce.
1974 Countach LP400
This Bertone design set Lamborghini off down the extreme angular design route. This is chassis number 001, a car capable of 196mph thanks to the aerodynamic shape and the 370bhp 4.0-litre V12 engine.
1972 P250 Urraco
With the oil crisis looming, this 2.5-litre engined 2+2 with 217bhp was meant to be a more sensible option – you could get a 3.0-litre version with 247bhp.
2012 Urus concept
The production version of this concept, first revealed at the 2012 Beijing motor show, is near delivery now, using a twin-turbo V8, giving Lamborghini’s SUV 595bhp.
Lambo’s first SUV was a monster, with a 5.2-litre V12 that came out of the Countach. Lamborghini made 300 of these, with lightweight aluminium and fibreglass bodies, precursors to some of the Hummers and suchlike we see today.
2014 Asterion LP1 910-4
This experimental car has the 5.2-litre V10 on board, but also three electric motors as part of the company’s drive into electric or hybrid propulsion. This clearly isn’t for sensible economy – there’s 898bhp and a top end a whisker short of 200mph.
Seen at the Paris motor show, this one-off is an experiment with a four-door design GT car. It was designed to be less frenetic than most Lambos, with an ability to comfortably cover a lot of miles.
1964 350 GT
The first production car from the factory had a 3.5-litre V12 making 276bhp. Lamborghini made 120 examples for this Ferrari 250 GT rival.
This prototype showed Lamborghini was thinking about making a more economical model but this V10-engined car with the removable roof never made it into production.
2006 Miura concept
To celebrate 40 years of Lamborghini, the Centro Stile division produced this one-off, based on the original.
2001 Diablo 6.0 SE
This special edition Diablo had a gold and brown paint job and was made to celebrate 11 years of Diablo production. Top speed was 205mph, courtesy of the 6.0-litre V12’s 567bhp, all of that going to all four wheels. It was the most extreme Diablo ever made.
