It provides apprenticeship training as well as the short courses and assessments that trade professionals need throughout their careers.

Steve said: “The coronavirus lockdown means that while our gates are closed at the moment, the business is battling hard to make sure that all its customers and staff are supported through this difficult time.

“Some staff have been furloughed, but a small core team is still working, mostly remotely, keeping in touch with customers and reassuring them that the training and assessment they need for their professional qualifications will be rearranged as soon as the lockdown is lifted.

“And this support is particularly important for the young apprentices at the start of their careers.

“The Apprenticeships Team have been working flat out (while observing all social distancing rules of course) to create a revised delivery model to replace face-to-face teaching while the lockdown is in place.”

He said tutors have created new ways of working to deliver their training remotely to minimise the impact on the apprenticeship programmes.

“When we knew we would be temporarily closing our centres, we phoned every apprentice to discuss their wellbeing and their employment position, and to explain how their learning would continue during lockdown,” Steve said.

“We continue to talk to them all on a weekly basis to make sure they’re okay.

“This is a worrying time too for the many local companies who employ the apprentices.

“Many of these are small family businesses who have been our valued customers for many years, and we’re doing everything we can to support them.

“So while it’s not quite business as usual, we’re certainly making sure the high standards of service we’re known for are maintained until we can open our doors once again.”
