Shopping centre introduces social distancing measures

A shopping centre has put in place a series of safety measures as non-essential stores reopen after weeks of enforced closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The County Mall in Southgate Avenue, Crawley has introduced new signage, a one-way system and will limit the number of customers to protect staff and customers when the bulk of the businesses at the shopping centre reopen on Monday, June 15.

A spokesperson for the County Mall said: “As we prepare for non-essential retailers to re-open from June 15, the safety of our retailers and shoppers remain our priority.

“We understand the importance of staying safe in accordance with Public Health England guidelines.

“To support this, we have implemented a one-way pedestrian system to comply with government social distancing measures and installed signage that provides visual guidance to assist our customers and visitors on the safe entry and exit routes as well as how to safely navigate around the centre.

“Also in accordance with government guidance County Mall will regulate the number of customers in the centre at any one time.

“We will be monitor the footfall and flow with the help CCTV and our security teams on the floor.

“Our cleaning staff will be on hand and will be wearing social distancing messages on their uniform to promote the social distance message.

“The seating area in the food court will remain closed off and the food and beverage retailers will only be operating a takeaway service only at the current time.

“We look forward to welcoming our shoppers but please stay safe and think of others. Hand sanitiser will be available at various points around the centre but we ask that you do not come in if you believe you are at risk of carrying the coronavirus.”
