Retired businessmen impressed by new waste facility

A GROUP of retired businessmen has given their seal of approval to the construction of a new waste treatment facility.

Members of the PROBUS Club of Horsham and District paid a visit on Monday 15th August to Brookhurst Wood, North Horsham to see Biffa’s new Mechanical Biological Treatment plant.

Carolyn Couch, Biffa’s West Sussex community liaison Officer, explained how the facility will treat West Sussex’s non-recycled household rubbish and some business waste.

By diverting landfill waste, the plant will reduce emissions of methane from landfill and thus help West Sussex County Council avoid the costly fines it could incur for exceeding landfill targets as set by the Government.

Club President Danny Hilliard said: “The club looks forward to a return visit in 2013 when the construction work will be finished and the plant will be up and running.”

Probus Clubs cater for the interests of retired or semi-retired professional or business people.

The PROBUS Club of Horsham & District meets on the first Thursday of every month at the Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre.

If you are a retired businessman and would like to join the Club then contact the secretary, Peter Lewis on 01403 268 267.
