The ‘family friendly’ market will be held on the second Saturday of each month in Church Walk, from 9am to 2pm.

The first market will take place on Saturday, September 12.

Burgess Hill Town Council, which is coordinating the market, is now keen to hear from local producers, farmers, market traders and businesses who would like to be part of the exciting venture.

“Whether you’re an independent baker, greengrocer, fishmonger, delicatessen, organic egg farmer, produce local Sussex cheeses or make crafts and gifts, we want to hear from you,” said a spokesman.

Council leader Robert Eggleston commented: “Burgess Hill had a proud tradition as a market town until the 1990s which many of its residents remember fondly.

“I am very excited that the Town Council is reviving this tradition and I am sure it is going to be a great success.

“I am looking forward to welcoming stallholders to the town where they will be part of a revival of the town centre that the Town Council is working hard to deliver.”
