Hotel boss Guy in running for award

Guy Hilton, the general manager of Hilton London Gatwick Airport is among the nominees for business personality of the year in the Business Matters Awards.

Mr Hilton is instrumental in the success of the 4 star hotel located in the South Terminal of Gatwick Airport.

The hotel boasts 821 rooms, 21 meeting rooms and 5 food and beverage outlets.

Guy Hilton has to date had a hugely successful career in the hotel industry, from receiving an Acorn Award in 1998 through to his current leadership of the Hilton London Gatwick Airport securing 14 awards in the past 12 months under his leadership, including General Manager of the Year 2014.

Guy’s career has encompassed all part of the business through people development, customer service, quality and profitability through his Hilton Career with Edinburgh, Newcastle Gateshead, Brighton Metropole and most recently at Gatwick Airport.

His nomination reads: “As the General Manager of Hilton London Gatwick Airport, Guy Hilton has to drive and lead the team to deliver the best customer service and experience. He also has to find and close business opportunities; in his own words he has to be ‘a salesman, a leader, an administrator, a financier and, not forgetting, an hotelier’.

“Moreover, Guy is heavily involved in the Graduate recruitment for Hilton Worldwide and has also recently positioned the Hilton London Gatwick Airport as a Centre of Excellence for apprentices.”

Guy is also involved in the recruitment assessment of Hiltons Elevator 18 month fast track programme, as well as Shine 4D and Shine GM, both senior management development programmes within the group. Commercially Guy has seen great success through innovative ideas within the hotel, including its Super Saver Sale, an offer launched in August 2014 and selling over 3.500 room nights from September and December 2014.

When he is not working Guy has also raised funds through many local charities and participated in events such as: two London Marathons and three Brighton Marathons, Great North runs and many 5K & 10 K race resulting in personal fundraising of over £16K since joining Hilton alone. Guy has also cycled from Newcastle to Twickenham with Tom May for “Just for kids”, raising over £30,000.
