Over the years Sakakini has expanded and during the recession it branched out to offer a pawn-broking service.

He also has The Jewellery Doctor page on Facebook, which offers advice and information. If you are thinking about buying a piece of jewellery you can get tips on what questions to ask the seller and how to tell whether you are getting a good deal. The Facebook page has received more than 500 likes since it was launched.

This free service is part of Sakakini’s mission to educate people about jewellery.

It is this and his support with Business Matters which underline his interest in the community.

He said: “We really feel part of the community, we have an open door policy and are happy for people to walk in and chat to us.”

Last year Sakakini launched the Diamond Club, offering a dazzling alternative for potential investments. Members get exclusive investment opportunities, as well as discounts. Sakakini works closely with the diamond traders, cutting out many layers of middle-men and ensuring customers get the best wholesale prices.
