The Cisswood House Hotel at Lower Beeding - originally built in 1928 for the then chairman of Harrods - says it has made the decsion ‘with a heavy heart.’
But it says it will review its decision at the end of the month.
Earlier this year a planning application to demolish the hotel to make way for 50 flats was turned down by Horsham District Council.
Hotel director Clive Lewis, in a message on the hotel’s website this week, said: “After carefully considering the Government reopening guidelines and having had much deliberation, consideration and many conversations within the team, it is with a heavy heart that we have made the decision not to reopen in July.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and follow the Government’s announcements and we will review the decision at the end of July.
“When we do reopen we want our guests to enjoy a relaxed stay, make use of our leisure facilities and beauty salon, enjoy one of our highly popular events or celebrate a marriage in style, under current regulations we just cannot offer these experiences either at all or in a way that would be close to the experience we would wish you to have.
“Unfortunately this does affect our ability to be able to host our popular tribute nights. As soon as we are given an update as to when we are able to host these events again we will be able to reschedule all events for you to enjoy.
“The entire team are currently furloughed so we will be unable to respond to any email individually until we reopen.”
He added: “We cannot wait to welcome you back to the hotel when we reopen.”
Back in January, a Swiss investment company applied for planning consent to knock down the hotel to build 50 new flats, but it was turned down in March.
Two previous planning applications to build flats in the grounds behind the independently-run hotel were also turned down by Horsham council.
Many local residents opposed to the proposals and lodged letters of objection.
