The festival has launched amidst the cancellation of Brighton’s summer events calendar due to Covid-19.

Howard Barden, head of VisitBrighton, said: “Traditionally, May in Brighton is a celebratory month that signals the start of summer, with a number of leading arts, culture and music events The Brighton Festival, Brighton Fringe, Artists Open House and the Great Escape all taking place, bringing joy and entertainment to hundreds of thousands of people.

“This year, with a huge culture-sized gap left by the cancellation of all live events and gatherings, the city’s tourism body has curated a selection of the best events, performances and shows in the first virtual festival to come to Brighton & Hove.

“Both residents and tourists of the seaside destination will be able to enjoy what the city has to offer, all from the comfort of their living rooms. The festival features an impressive schedule including live laughs from the Krater Comedy Club at Komedia, Brighton Fringe’s Roaring 2020 Speakeasy, Drag Festival from Club Revenge, and a live turtle feeding at Brighton’s Sea Life, plus many more set to join the stellar line-up.

“The festival will be hosted via VisitBrighton’s social media channels where viewers will be directed to the different acts’ channels to enjoy a whole host of events.”

Howard added: “We’re so excited to be running this festival full of amazing acts and events. We know this is a tricky time for the whole world, and we’re thrilled to be providing a little bit of entertainment to try and lift people’s spirits. Everyone across Brighton’s wonderful arts and events sector has been working so hard on their performances this year and we’re delighted to provide an opportunity for them to still showcase these.”
