The 36-acre museum, situated in the heart of the South Downs National Park, is eager to reopen with refurbished nature trails, funded by the South Downs National Park Authority’s COVID Recovery Fund, a spokesman said.

And a full 2021 events calendar is on offer, along with vintage bus rides on the weekends.

“Steampunk Weekend is making a return this summer as well as the rescheduled brand-new event, James Bond Weekend, highlighting the museum’s involvement of being a location for ‘A View to a Kill’.”

There will also be plenty of family-focussed events on offer, the spokesman said, starting with Green Week in May half term, a Family Day on Father’s Day, and on the August bank holiday, an Ale & Crafts Weekend.

The first event is Industrial Trains Day on May 23, when a steam train will be on the tracks for passenger rides for the first time in more than six months.

And there will be plenty more narrow-gauge action. Billingshurst Signal Box will be open and there will be demonstrations on the Industrial Monorail and Standard Gauge railway.

The museum has put in place covid measures to ensure the safety of visitors, volunteers and staff and has received the ‘We’re Good to Go’ Industry Standard to confirm that it is following Government and industry guidelines and processes to maintain cleanliness and social distancing.

Anyone wishing to have a memorable day out at Amberley must book in advance on the museum’s website for the specific day that they wish to visit.

The museum will be open from 10am – 4:30pm, Wednesdays – Sundays and bank holiday Mondays.
