Well, at least they looked the part with ‘space suits’ complete with NASA emblems and their pram constructed in the shape of the Challenger space craft.

The team, who came all the way from Chichester area to join in with the Easter Monday event, made an equally impressive appearance last year with their Roman chariot and team members dressed as Centurions.

This year the spacemen were one of 25 adult pram race teams which took part in the race around the streets of Bolney, stopping at regular intervals at ‘pit stops’ to ‘refuel’ themselves and their machines.

The day also saw 25 children’s pram racing teams take part creating a carnival atmosphere with villagers of all ages helping as route marshalls and assistants.

Head race organisers Robert Dryer said: “It’s the one day of the year when the whole village pulls together and it’s absolutely marvellous!”

A team of three British Airways hostesses also attended the start of the race to give an airline-style safety talk, pointing out emergency ‘exits’ and reminding competitors not to smoke on route

The hostees were there to represent Dreamflight, the charity that flies seriously ill children to Florida for a holiday of a lifetime

Dreamflight and SERV - the emergency volunteer riders service that delivers out of hour blood and blood products to hospitals, are the recipients of the money raised by the Bolney Pram Race event.
