Video: Beautiful daffodils despite weather and disease

DESPITE the late spring, and a disease which has hit many daffodils, entries were up at Beeding and Bramber Horticultural Society’s Spring show, in the village hall on Saturday (March 17).

The increased entry was an achievement under the circumstances, because some regular exhibitors had fewer flowers than usual to enter.

Winner of the Spring Show Cup for most points in the show was Alisdair MacCulloch who also won the Vincent Cup for the best flower exhibit, Winner of the Hilda Phillips Cup for the best entry in nine blooms of one variety of daffodil) was Alan Baker. who produced nine perfect blooms when most gardeners said finding even five was difficult.

First prizes in the children’s section were Brook Wells (Easter card) and Isobel Matthews (Easter floral display).

Winner of the George and Hilda Newman trophy for the best entry in the section for floral art was Margaret Tompsett.

Unfortunately, as the show started, the rain started, which badly affected the number of visitors to the show.
