Tribute to county’s composers

Sussex composers will be celebrated in a special event for the Chichester Festivities in St George’s Church, Cleveland Road, Chichester on June 27 at 8.30pm.

The St Richard Singers will be directed by Michael Walsh. The evening will offer music from the 16th to 21st centuries by Sussex-associated composers including Weelkes, Holst, Vaughan Williams and The Way of Love, a choral suite with words by Rupert Brooke and music by Michael Walsh.

Singers chairman John Palmer said: “The St Richard’s Singers contribution to the Chichester Festival has a very local flavour to it this year.

“We are singing music entirely written by composers who have a strong connection with our own county, including three former Cathedral organists. The concert also features a piece composed by Michael Walsh, who is not only our conductor, but also directs the Chichester Symphony Orchestra and the Operatic Society. The music spans five centuries, so there should be something for everyone.”

Tickets £10 from the Festivities Box Office or at the door on the night.
