Panto treat in Pantovia

Spokesman Nigel Currie said: “In the idyllic but troubled Pantovia, brought to near ruin by the upstart Count de Cash, the Rumpole family and their neighbours do their best to celebrate young Rosie’s birthday, even if she is dreading her grandmother’s inevitable present of a red riding hood!

“But the party is spoilt when the awful Count arrives and tries to drag the fair Rosie away to the palace. She is rescued by a brave young visitor and it is love at first sight. Little does she know that he is in fact Prince Rupert, the rightful ruler of the land. But like all good pantos, there are a few more twists in the tale!

“Yes, it’s panto time again, and the Barns Green Players are rehearsing in preparation for another blockbuster of a show. This year’s Pantomime is Little Red Riding Hood and it promises to be even better than last January’s huge success when the Barns Green Players staged King Arthur.

“On the back of the demand for tickets last year it has been decided that there will be an extra performance on the afternoon of Sunday, January 15. This means there will now be a total of seven shows performed over two weekends in the Barns Green Village Hall in January. The shows will be on Friday 13 (evening), Saturday 14 (afternoon and evening), Sunday 15 (afternoon), Friday 20 (evening), and Saturday 21 (afternoon and evening).”

Director Graeme Muncer said: “Little Red Riding Hood is written by Paul Reakes, who also wrote last year’s show. It is full of great jokes, plenty of slapstick and has enormous scope for our talented cast to express themselves and entertain the audience.

“The shows are aimed at all ages although the afternoon performances are particularly suitable for the very youngest children. There are singalongs and sweets for the kids and opportunities for the audience to join in with the fun. For the evening performances there is a licensed bar serving a variety of alcoholic and soft drinks as well as sweets.

“If you are regulars at the Barns Green Players Panto you will know just what a good show they put on and if you haven’t been before you are in for a real treat.”
