Mad comedy and wine at The Hawth

Expect larger-than-life characters, mad comedy, pirates and, of course, wine by the barrel load in this original devised piece of physical and inventive theatre, packed with rumbustious songs and live music.

Théâtre Sans Frontières’ latest production Canary Gold is an amusing satire based on tales around 500 glorious years of wine trade between the Canary Islands and the UK.

Suitable for ages 15 and above, the show is performed in English and Spanish, with a little French, and is surtitled.

Malmsey wine: pure Canary gold - once the most sought-after tipple on the high seas! Served at aristocratic tables throughout Europe, quoted by Shakespeare and used to toast the American Declaration of Independence, this was no ordinary wine. In present day Canary Wharf, wine traders and financiers gather for a prestigious wine tasting, hoping to grab the investment opportunity of the decade.

A rare Canarian wine has come on to the market. Is it the real thing or an elaborate forgery?

As the mystery surrounding this dusty old bottle begins to unravel, judge for yourself who the real pirates are!

This production is acollaboration between TSF and Tenerife-based theatre company Teatro Tamaska.
