Invite to dads and lads to meet SAS hero

Chris, known for his Bravo Two Zero Gulf War mission in Iraq, will be talking about his new novels Deadfall and Masters of War as well as his ten years in the SAS Regiment during which he was involved in overt and covert operations and was also the sniper team commander of the anti-terrorist team.

During his Iraq mission, Chris was the only member of an eight-man team to escape from Iraq when three colleagues were killed and four captured. It was the longest escape and evasion in the history of the SAS, and he was subsequently awarded the Military Medal. During his final two years in the regiment he selected and trained potential SAS recruits before leaving the SAS in 1994. He now works worldwide in security.

Chris is part of National Literacy Trust’s Reading Champions initiative which targets boys who are not necessarily readers, but have a degree of status within their school. They are encouraged to act as reading advocates and at the same time develop their own enthusiasm for reading.

The scheme also encourages reading at home and is aimed at, but not limited to, boys and their fathers.

Chris is aiming his afternoon talk at lads and dads but with the discussion incorporating, but with anecdotes from his time in the army as well as excerpts from his books it is suitable for all adults and young adults over 12.

The talk is the latest in Random House’s series of talks in Worthing, which also features former home secretary Alan Johnson (April 23) and author Sadie Jones (May 15).
