Scorcher of new season promised

Crawley’s Hawth’s is promising a scorcher of a summer season, packed with comedy, dance, film, family shows and theatre.

Hawth spokeswoman Lorraine Gould said: “Tickets are already selling fast for the hot comedy Calendar Girls (May 9-14), with an all star cast including, including Lesley Joseph (Birds of a Feather), Kacey Ainsworth (EastEnders’ Little Mo), Sue Holderness (Marlene in Only Fools and Horses) and Strictly Come Dancing’s Camilla Dallerup.

“There are plenty of theatrical treats to be had both inside and out. Les Enfants Terribles present the elegant and subversive The Infant (June 22 and 23) in the Studio, while outside audiences can look forward to a return visit from Compagnie Animotion with the free, world premiere of its first international multi-media commission, Diaspora (June 18), telling a tale inspired by the people of Crawley.

“There will also be alfresco theatre with Twelfth Night (June 28) in the Amphitheatre in June followed by Fantastic Mr Fox (Aug 3, Goffs Park), Pirates of Penzance (Aug 11, Amphitheatre) and Wind In The Willows (Aug 20 and 21, Amphitheatre) in August.

“The outdoor theme continues as Crawley Folk Festival returns in June to celebrate its 20th anniversary. There will be music from Warsaw Village Band (June 24), The Elevators (June 24) and The Copper Family (June 25) plus much more. Come along and enjoy the stalls, food, workshops and fun while soaking up the sun, sounds and atmosphere.

“Those looking for a more classical style of music will be delighted to hear that The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (May 22) are back and legendary baritone Sir Willard White (May 1) will be performing as part of the Classical Concert Series.

“The Hawth’s Going Global programme brings the amazing Harlem Gospel Choir (May 27) to Crawley direct from New York and Ladysmith Black Mambazo (June 15) make a welcome return. Plus there will be the usual selection of great blues, jazz and world music.”

Plus Rob Rouse will be putting a smile on everyone’s face with his new show The Great Escape (May 24).

“Families can come along for an afternoon of sheer silliness as The Chuckle Brothers (May 2) return with Barry Potty and his full blood brother Paul in the Ghostly Shadows. Later in the season some well known faces will be popping in including Shaun the Sheep in Shaun’s Big Show (May 18-21) and Mr Benn, The Extraordinary Adventures of An Ordinary Man (June 13 and 14). Plus the internationally acclaimed Shaolin Warriors (June 9) are back with a show full of breathtaking feats to wow all ages. The international family fun continues throughout the season culminating with Crawley International Mela (July 30 & 31), featuring music, dance, food, stalls and crafts from all over the world.”
