Movies released this week

The cinemas will be packing them in as the guaranteed hit Inbetweeners 2 (15) gets its UK release on Wednesday (August 6).

The first movie proved a surprise hit. I say surprise but no one should have been shocked as the TV series had a massive cult following.

Although the more mature (OK elderly) audiences may not enjoy the humour, there will be masses of teenagers and people in their 20 and even 30s who will be filling the cinemas and thoroughly enjoying every minute.

The Inbetweeners themselves, Will, Jay, Neil and Simon, are in Australia this time but the raunchy jokes and comic situations will, no doubt, follow the tried and trusted formula.

The late Philip Seymour Hoffman’s penultimate film, God’s Pocket (15) also stars the very excellent UK actor Eddie Marsan.

Hoffman plays Mickey whose step-son Leon is killed in a construction ‘accident’. However, no one in the God’s Pocket neighbourhood where they live seems to care. However, in an attempt to find the truth Mickey gets involved in all manner of problems. It also stars Caleb Landry Jones, one of the better aspects of the 2012 UK vampire film Byzantium.

If you fancy something totally left field and can you find a screening then Terracotta distribution have released Moebius (18) from the acclaimed director Kim Ki-duk.

The synopsis say this is ‘a daring portrayal of a dysfunctional family, filmed without dialogue and featuring outstanding performances from three very talented actors.’

Of course, it’s still the school holidays so how about Planes: Fire & Rescue (U). Ed Harris and Dane Cook’s voices feature in this follow up to last year’s Planes.

This time Dusty (Cook) joins a fire and rescue unit after he discovers his engine is damaged and that he may never race again.
