More murder on the coast

West Wittering Players’ production of Peter Gordon’s comedy Murdered To Death played to packed houses last year.

Now they present its sequel Secondary Cause Of Death as their 2011 spring production.

The action takes place in Bagshott Hall, the ancestral home of Colonel Craddock, who is played once again by Dennis Harrison.

Malcolm Edney, as before, takes the role of the intrepid Inspector Pratt who arrives at the Hall with some very disturbing news for the Colonel.

As Players spokeswoman Pam Hilton explains: “It is unfortunate that the Inspector’s visit coincides with a Murder Mystery Weekend being organised by Cynthia Maple played by Angie Willsher, who just happens to be the sister of the well-known supersleuth Joan Maple. “Those who saw Murdered To Death will know that before long Inspector Pratt’s visit is bound to turn into absolute chaos. Guests begin to be killed off as the Inspector tries desperately to identify the murderer.

“He certainly has plenty of suspects to choose from. There is the elegant Lady Isadora Pollock, played by Hilary Kennedy-Cooke. Is she really a lady, or has she a secret agenda? There is the Colonel’s so-called nurse, played by newcomer to the Players, Tracy Webb. Is she really interested in the Colonel’s health, or is it his body that interests her?

“The other house guests include a Polish count played by Rob Vickers and Henrietta Woolmer-Cardington, an ATS Officer played by Catherine Wildsmith. Are they really who they say they are, and, if not, who are they?”

Not even the Cook, Pat Connon, or the Housekeeper - Pam herself - are above suspicion.

The play runs at West Wittering Memorial Hall from April 13-16 at 7.30pm. Tickets priced £6 and £5.50 are now on sale at Sayas News, West Wittering, or can be bought on Saturday, April 9 between 10.30 and 12.30 in East Wittering village, outside the shops near the Co-op where the Players will have a stall. The producer is Sally Hancock.
