Life ofRon Moody

ACTOR Ron Moody will discuss A Still Untitled (Not Quite) Autobiography in a meet-the-author session at Ropetackle Arts Centre, Shoreham, on Wednesday, November 17 at 7pm.

Best known for his character-defining portrayal of Fagin in Oliver!, Ron celebrates the publication of his new memoir revealing the twists and turns of his career and the people he met and worked with along the way.

Planning to become an academic, Moody first took to the boards in student revues at the London School of Economics. His ability to create a string of eccentric and original characters quickly caught the attention of West End theatre producers, and the course of his life changed forever.

Moody provides insights into the attention to detail involved in creating characters, the role of anarchy and clowning in his performances, and the nature of theatre itself. He also reveals how tensions both on and off stage – as there were in Oliver! – can stimulate actors to create something especially memorable.

Ron Moody was born in Tottenham in North London. His 50-year career spans theatre, film and television and includes Candide, Oliver!, TV’s David Copperfield, and EastEnders. He is also the author of two novels called The Devil You Don’t and Very, Very Slightly Imperfect, a children’s novel called The Amazon Box, and a book about public speaking called Off The Cuff.
