Kate wraps up Acoustic Sussex season

The last Acoustic Sussex event of the year - and until at least February 2012 - brings singer-songwriter Kate Walsh to Chequer Mead, East Grinstead on Saturday, November 5 at 8pm.

She’s a performer series organiser Martin Snodin is delighted to bring to West Sussex.

“Four years ago, 26-year-old Kate Walsh recorded her breakthrough album, Tim’s House, in her producer’s bedroom for £500. It became an iTunes sensation, knocking Take That from the number one spot as the only independent artist ever to have achieved the top spot.

“The song Talk Of The Town became Single of the Week in March 2007. Her career took a step up from that time and she is regularly now featured in the music press and radio. Earlier this year, she supported Mark Knopfler on his six-night run at the Royal Albert Hall.

“A graduate of the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, pianist/guitarist Walsh has been likened to singers such as Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush. She writes delicately fragile, confessional songs that make the listener feel like a close personal confidante as she bares her soul with sometimes shocking candour.

“Musically, Walsh undoubtedly falls into the category of ‘singer-songwriter’ - but one who adores Debussy, studies cello, listens constantly to Classic FM (and little else), bemoans the demise of vinyl and CDs, is entertainingly scathing about the conventional music industry. And she has established her own cottage industry to do it her way.

“Kate’s latest album, The Real Thing is officially released in November to coincide with a UK tour and reflects her wish to record an album in the simplest and truest form possible. All songs for the album have been recorded live in the old fashioned sense of the word – no overdubs, no backing vocals… just simple and honest one-take performances which are straight from her heart.”

Support for the show is Andy Whittle, who has performed in the series twice before. Tickets are £13 (£11 concessions) available from the box office on 01342 302000.
