Folk, jazz, pop and some winning wry humour from Belshazzar’s Feast

Sharing their 20th anniversary of playing together, Paul Hutchinson (accordion) and Paul Sartin (oboe, violin and vocals), have a passion for traditional English folk music.

They claim that this is borne out of a desire to earn sufficient money to support their extravagant lifestyles, which is typical of the wry humour that has won fans across Europe and the United States.

Belshazzar’s Feast start with traditional folk music, add a touch of classical and jazz, throw in a bit of pop and music hall, and top it off with some witty banter for a unique live experience.

The musicians received a coveted nomination for the Best Duo Award at the 2010 BBC Folk Awards.

December 2015 sees them hit the road once again with an unforgettable show of seasonal material, audience involvement, faultless musicianship and laughter.

As a singer, oboist, violinist, composer and arranger Paul Sartin performs and records extensively with Belshazzar’s Feast, Faustus, and five times winner of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Best Live Act Bellowhead, whose songbook he edited for Faber Music. Among his compositions – ‘The Hartlepool Monkey’ for Streetwise Opera, was nominated for a BASCA – he edits publications of music manuscripts, delivers workshops, and is consultant and director of the Andover Museum Loft Singers.

Paul Hutchinson is well known from his work with Hoover the Dog, Karen Tweed, The Playford Liberation Front and more recently with Pagoda Project who have just released their debut album, Clarion.
