The large audience was treated to a miscellany of music from composers ranging from Karl Jenkins, AntonioVivaldi and John Rutter to Fats Waller, Simon and Garfunkel and Paul Simon, all under the baton of their retiring Music Director, Akiko Takahashi.

The choir’s guest performer was the brilliant pianist Mary Bruce who played pieces by Frederick Chopin and Edvard Greig and whose performance was treated with rapturous applause. A truly beautiful performance.

Loxwood residents Akiko Takahashi and Jean Spira started the choir two years ago when they thought it would be fun to have a choir made up of local people to sing and have fun. It was a brave decision but with Akiko Takahashi as music director the choir has grown both in numbers and stature. However, now Akiko has decided to put all her energy into her main job, teaching the younger generation. This was her last concert with the choir. Jean Spira paid tribute to her hard work and dedication in starting the group from scratch to building what is now a very talented choir. She was presented with an engraved crystal bowl.

The choir’s new music director, Laura Skuce, starts on lst May, 2013.

The North Singers welcome more members and anyone wishing to join or obtain more information, should contact the Chairman, Jean Spira on 01403 752711.
