Celebrating music of Dirty Dancing

Leanne Harwood is having - just as you’d expect - the time of her life. And she’s keen to share it with you on A Night Of Dirty Dancing at the Pavilion Theatre, Worthing on Thursday, July 21.

The show doesn’t tell the story. It simply celebrates the music in a brand-new stage spectacular featuring all the hits from one of the biggest dance movies of all time, Dirty Dancing.

Music fans are invited to take a trip back to the summer of 63, to relive Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey’s sizzling performance in the box office hit that has become a cult classic.

Song include She’s Like the Wind, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Hey Baby, Wipeout, Do You Love Me, Be My Baby, Hungry Eyes and, of course, the Oscar-winning (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.

Fulfilling every girly dream, Leanne is the woman in white for that particular number - inevitably one of her favourite moments from the show.

She’s also particularly partial to the mash-up of Do You Love Me and Twist And Shout - all part of the show’s unexpected success.

“It has grown and grown. You start on a small scale and then you are always looking for ways to make it grow further. Luckily we have got lovely people so you can say ‘Let’s move this here’ or ‘Let’s try this, let’s try a new song’.”

The result is a show that gets the audience up and in the aisles, perfect feel-good fun - with, as Leanne says, plenty of eye candy for both the guys and the girls.

“We started with a small version for a couple of years, and it has now progressed into either a six-piece or an eight-piece. We realised that it would work on a bigger scale, and the number of people we have had coming along has been amazing.

“We thought Dirty Dancing might be dying out a bit because of things like Glee, but not at all. It is a classic. Lots of things get labelled a classic and then get rushed, but this one really is,” Leanne says.
