This spring, the highly acclaimed Hull Truck Theatre will bring the classic story of love, loss and redemption Jane Eyre to The Hawth Studio.

From a harsh childhood controlled by unfeeling adults, Jane Eyre has to rely on her own courage and convictions to make her way in the world.

She longs to learn and dares to dream. Employed as a governess, she travels across the bleak Yorkshire moors to the mysterious Thornfield Hall – a house of locked doors with a dangerous secret.

There she meets the strange, sardonic and intriguing Mr Rochester.

Charlotte Bronte’s classic is one of the greatest and most popular works of English fiction. Rebecca Hutchinson (We Are Three Sisters, Northern Broadsides) will portray the titular character in Hull Truck Theatre’s production alongside Andrew Dowbiggin (After Miss Julie, London Classic Theatre) and Viktoria Kay (The Pitman Painters, National Tour).

This all new production has been adapted by up and coming playwright Laura Turner and will be directed by Nick Lane (The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, Hull Truck Theatre).

Laura Turner says: “It’s a privilege to be adapting Jane Eyre for this Hull Truck Theatre tour. I think the fact that Jane’s story is so rooted in the local Yorkshire landscape has made the project feel really right.

“I think at the centre of Jane Eyre is a dilemma we can all identify with: whether to follow our head or our heart.”

Jane Eyre is the first national tour of 2013 for Hull Truck Theatre. In 2012, the theatre’s touring work was shortlisted at the annual Theatre Awards UK run by the Theatrical Management Association (TMA).
