Original artists are making their musical skills known at a monthly event at The Anchor Hotel in Horsham.
The next evening of Stan’s Showcase takes place on Sunday, March 30.
This month’s line-up includes gypsy jazz combo Swing Bee, The Seawolves, country blues act Drop Dead Red and promising young singer-songwriter Sam Leeves, who is heavily influenced by the ’90s Seattle scene.
Organiser Jamie ‘Stan’ Stanley will be kicking things off with a few warm up tunes from 7.30pm.
Stan’s Showcase takes place on the last Sunday of every month.
Stan said: “There is no strict ‘originals only’ rule at the night.
“The purpose of the evening is to encourage and give exposure to artists writing original songs.
“So, the only rule is that they must have at least one original piece they’ve written themselves or, at the very least, original and unique arrangements of other people’s work.”
Paul Sharman, founder of www.horsham-rocks.co.uk, said: “Jamie ‘Stan’ Stanley (aka Mailman) has been an active and influential force on the Horsham, West Sussex and wider music scene for some years as a songwriter, producer, performer and tireless promoter of local, particularly original, music and artists.
“His songs are melodic and sometimes fiery, often packing a punch, and are driven by his constant and tireless fight on behalf of the socially disadvantaged, revealing and commentating on injustice whenever he sees it. ”
Paul continued: “He currently runs a number of open mics in the Horsham area: the first and third Thursday of every month at The Malt Shovel in Horsham and every second Thursday at The Star in Roffey.
“The invitation is informal – ‘just turn up’ – and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.”
Paul added: “Stan organised the first two ‘Horsham Rocks Presents’ mini-festivals at the end of 2012 and in the summer of 2013 – both a great success.
“He is currently in the throes of organising the next such event for August this year. Bring it on!”
