Sparks in the Parks, Piazza Italia and St George’s Day Parade events make a popular return to the Horsham Time Well Spent programme this year.

A number of exciting events are planned for the Horsham district during 2013 and Horsham District Council is working with a large number of local business and community partners to both put these together and to benefit from their association.

Kicking off the event programme on Thursday January 24 and Saturday January 26 is New Year, New You, an exciting new beauty, health and wellbeing event in Horsham town centre.

February wouldn’t be the same without the Rotary Charity Pancake Races and Mascots Egg & Spoon Races on Tuesday February 19 with the annual Microbiz taking place on Saturday March 9.

At the end of March and beginning of April, the popular Horsham Piazza Italia will once again be heading to Horsham over the Easter weekend and the Scouts will be holding their hugely popular annual St George’s Day Parade in the town on Sunday April 21.

The Sparks in the Park event will take place in Horsham Park on Sunday July 28 while The Big Nibble – A Slice of Sussex event will take place on Saturday and Sunday September 7 and 8.

Further events are scheduled for the rest of the year and plans for these are in development and will be publicised once these are confirmed.

Co-ordinating an exciting and varied event programme is one of many steps that the council is taking to support the local economy and in so doing more to meet its goal to build on the town’s reputation for arts, leisure and culture.

Roger Paterson cabinet member for the local economy, said: “This new action packed events programme is a fantastic way for locals and visitors alike to come together and get involved in the district’s activities while also helping to support the local economy.

“I am very pleased to see many usual and ever popular events have been retained, but with some terrific new additions for 2013 – such as the New Year, New You event.”

Jonathan Chowen, cabinet member for arts, heritage and leisure, said: “What a great array of events to really celebrate district life.

“These events provide a great opportunity for residents to enjoy the District at its best and for visitors to come to the area and see what is really on offer.”

Local produce and mixed markets, full of a range of local produce and arts and crafts, are also run all year round on Thursdays and Saturdays in the Carfax in Horsham town centre by Horsham Markets on behalf of the council.
