‘We lacked belief’ says Horsham boss

HUGO Langton says his Horsham side lacked belief in their 2-1 defeat to Hastings on Saturday.
Langton watched his team take an early lead through Calum McGeehan following a confident start from the hosts.
But the Hornets soon lost their way and goals from Tamer Tuna and Danny Ellis put Hastings 2-1 up at half-time, and in a flat second half a Horsham fight-back never materialised as the visitors held on to that lead.
Clearly hurt by this latest defeat, Horsham’s 21st from 28 league games, Langton said: “I thought for the first ten, 15 minutes we were decent, and then they ripped us apart for the rest of the half, they were the much better side.
“Particularly up front they were causing us problems. We’ve worked on things in training and we were trying to play a bit higher, but it doesn’t matter whether you play a high line or a low line, if you don’t press the ball then there’s no point.
“We spoke about it at half-time and I thought we defended a lot better, we nullified them trying to put balls through, we managed to cut that out.
“We were better in the second half, but I’m disappointed because I felt we lacked a bit of belief in the second half. At 2-1 down you should be throwing everything into it and there were times when I thought we weren’t.
“We are where we are for a reason, we’ve got a young group of boys who are a bit inexperienced and perhaps naïve, they’re taking a few too many touches on the ball at times in the wrong areas.
“One thing Hastings did is they did the basics right. They passed the ball the way they were facing and they did it quickly. We tried to take a few touches and got into trouble and gave the ball away.
“I keep telling the boys, football is such a simple game but you make it complicated.
“The players spend too much time worrying about how to nullify the opposition, but all I ever tell them to do is go and play, go and attack, get the ball forward, and we didn’t do that today for my liking.”
