And the hosts revelled in the exalted company of some of the finest rugby playing schools in the country as they reached the Plate final, losing out 12-7 to Bridgend College.

Premiership referee, and tournament director Sean Davey oversaw proceedings, which was also graced by the presence of top IRB official Wayne Barnes – who refereed the final of the inaugural girls event between SEEVIC from Essex and Epsom College.

Also present on the day were England's Dan Hipkiss, Wasps aces Dan Leo and Joe Simpson, Becky Essex of Richmond and England Women, plus Peter Hewitt and Faan Rautenbach.

Christ's Hospital headteacher John Franklin commented: "It was a wonderful day in wonderful weather. The play has been of a very high standard and I am delighted to see the Christ's Hospital teams progressing towards the finals. Out girls have done very well and to have a girls tournament is very good them.
