Swimmers make impression at relay championships

EIGHT young swimmers did Horsham proud last weekend with a series of superb performances in the English National Schools Relay Championships.

A team from both the College of Richard Collyer and Tanbridge House School had qualified for the finals, held in Gloucester, back in November at the Triangle in Burgess Hill.

And against the odds, plus top swimming schools, the Collyers squad of Callum Hillicks, Ben Trout, Matthew Woodridge and Jonathan Blyth claimed a gold medal while the Tanbridge team of Finlay Hillicks, Josh Trout, Lewis Fisher and Sam Carter managed to claim the honour of eighth best in the country.

Jess Hillicks, an unofficial co-ordinator for both teams, lavished praise on the young swimmers.

"The best thing about these schools and the achivement is that they are not public schools," she said. "Most of the teams they were swimming against were public schools which have all the best swimmers and the best facilities."
