Pulborough Under 12s rugby team rounded off a great season by winning the West Sussex Festival on Sunday (April 7) at Crawley Rugby Club.
After an opening 0-0 draw against Worthing, Pulborough upped their game coming out 2-0 winners against Haywards Heath.
The final group match was against Midhurst with Pulborough running out convincing winners 7-0.
Having come through the group stages undefeated and without conceding a try the squad of 16 players then faced Horsham in the semi-final where tries by Ralph Robson and Chad Marais saw them through to the final 2-0.
A closely fought final against Chichester resulted in a 1-0 victory with the winning try fittingly being scored by Lauren Fisher.
Lauren was playing in her final competitive game for the team before she joins the burgeoning ladies side at Pulborough RFC.
Stuart Hobbs, the head coach was ecstatic with the win: “I missed out on seeing Harlequins play Munster today in the Heineken Cup, but I wouldn’t have missed this for the world. The players today and indeed the rest of the squad who were training back at Pulborough have worked unbelievably hard this year and this really does cap a great season for the team.”
Pulborough’s minis division continues to grow from strength to strength and the club is rightly proud of how the sectionhas grown providing an excellent environment for those boys and girls wanting to play rugby.
Mike Fisher, the outgoing minis chairman watched on with pride as the under 12s capped a great day for Pulborough who also had the under 10s winning their age group. “I am delighted with how all our teams play and the spirit shown throughout the club, this does indeed cap a wonderful season for our minis.”
