Pulborough Rugby Club are relishing the excitement as they gear up for an historic first ever season in the London Leagues.

The Black and Whites won promotion in style with the Sussex 1 title to join local rivals Horsham in London South East 3 and aim to hit the ground running.

A new coaching set-up is now in place. New head coach Clayton Saunders played at Hove until last season as well as coaching various county sides since he arrived in the UK from New Zealand.

His challenge is to keep the first XV in London SE3 but also to ensure the club has a steady supply of improving quality players by targeting promotion as soon as possible for the 2nd and 3rd XVs.

Clayton will be assisted by Sam Goatcher, the former Heathfield & Waldron full back who will bring experience from his time playing inboth SE3 and SE2.

Richard Nicholls retains the captaincy. The former Sutton and Epson player said: “I am really looking forward to the new season, we had our annual sevens tournament on Saturday which saw over 120 Pulborough players blow away a few cobwebs and ultimately saw the younger guys triumph.

“With the new coaches and general excitement that is surrounding the club at the moment I am just looking to get fit enough to keep my spot.”

Training starts this week and will be from 7pm every Tuesday and Thursday at the club’s Freelands home, new players always welcome.
