Holbrook got their season off to the perfect start with a 22-0 shut out over what was considered to be a strong Haywards Heath side.
With a number of changes of personnel from last season and with some young players thrown into the mix, Holbrook put on a tremendous display on a hot sunny day at their North Heath Lane ground.
Holbrook started the stronger with a physical display up front led by man of the match and debutant Billy Brown, who battered the Heath defence creating opportunities for the Holbrook backs to gain territory.
The first score came early, Nick Holt chipping the Heath defence for a speedy Lee Taylor to touch down, but despite dominating a series of errors meant they took until the end of the half to score again, Taylor chasing down his own kick to score under the posts, and Holt converted for a 12-0 half-time lead.
Holbrook turned the screw after the break and following sustained pressure centre Andy Etherington kicked an audacious drop goal. Holbrook’s defence for the rest of the game was fully committed and Holt intercepted a pass to touch down and convert the final points of the game.
