HORSHAM all but secured their London South East status on Saturday with an outstanding 22-16 win against Park House.
With two fixtures remaining, the Green and Whites are now four points ahead of relegation rivals Crawley courtesy of match points plus a crucial bonus point. Three weeks ago Horsham were ten points adrift of Crawley in the scramble to avoid the drop to Sussex 1, but a remarkable upturn in their form and a terrible slump from Crawley, who were smashed 82-22 by Charlton Park on Saturday, has seen the tables turned.
A combination of experienced heads, Tom Wright returning at full back after a long injury spell, and bright youth, flanker Joe Clarke, proved the right recipe for the Coolhurst outfit. Wright, Clarke, Neil Holden and Angelo Shepherd crossed for tries and if the kicking radar had been aligned better, Horsham’s win would have been much more emphatic.
Coach Nick Stocker said: “We wanted to improve focus and the skillset and show more patience, while also believing in the game plan, and all of that happened today.
“We are delighted with a bonus point victory, that takes us away from the relegation zone and keeps our destiny in our hands.”
