Teenage rugby star handed South West captaincy

CRANLEIGH School pupil Henry Taylor has been named captain of the Under-18 South West side for the forthcoming nationwide rugby tournament.

After playing for England U18s a year young, Henry, 17, has continued to balance his representative rugby with his commitment to both Cranleigh School and Harlequins.

Andrew Houston, director of rugby at the school said: “Henry’s achievement is a great reward for the whole of the Cranleigh School 1st XV squad, who had seven boys representing their county this season and whose games culminated in a fine victory over Wellington College.”

Henry is attempting to follow in the footsteps of three recent Old Cranleighans who all played for Harlequins last weekend against the Cardiff Blues.

Both Seb Stegman and Sam Smith scored tries with Will Collier coming on in the second half.

Houston added: “To have three Old Cranleighans all on the pitch at the same time in such a prestigious side is a terrific achievement and the school are incredibly proud of all of them.”
