Horsham RUFC give up ‘early Christmas present’
Horsham Rugby Club admit they have no idea how they lost to Sheppey on Saturday.
The Green and Whites were in control of their London South East 3 match, with a 17-6 half time lead, only for a series of poor decisions and a string of penalties see the hosts snatch defeat from the jaws of victory against second-placed Sheppey.
Horsham, meanwhile and slipped to sixth in the London South East 3 table.
Coach Nick Stocker said: “If we had not butchered three try scoring opportunities in the second half we would have won that game hands down. It was a disappointing loss, not least because they are second in the league and on every count we were the better side.
“We were far more ambitious as a team, we had more threat with ball in hand and made them look relatively mediocre.”
Rob Grantham-Hill, Sam Rice and Jamie Gibbs scored for Horsham before they failed to score in the second half.
Stocker said: “How on Earth we lost that game I’m yet to work out.
“It was, without doubt, an early Christmas present for Sheppey.”
