Horsham returned to league action after last week’s postponement, and with it picked up a first ever win away at Bromley.
When the hosts knocked over a 73rd minute penalty to nudge a point ahead, Horsham thoughts turned to last season’s last minute defeat on the same ground.
But history was not to repeat itself as two late tries from Tyler Aitken and Neal Holden gave the green and whites a 26-17 and the bonus point from scoring five tries.
Coach Nick Stocker said: “To be honest I think we struggled to get out of second gear for most of the match.
“We lacked some cohesion and intensity, but still we were rarely in danger and getting the bonus point win on a ground we had never won on before is very pleasing.
Playing down the slop first, a Will Bell penalty gave Horsham a 3-0 lead inside a minute but Bromley then took a quick tapped penalty and with the visitors defence out of shape they ran in for an unconverted try.
Horsham applied heavy pressure straight from the kick off, and after recycling the ball Rob Hoskins sniped through a gap before finding Bell in support to score on the right.
The sides traded penalties as Horsham finished the half 11-8 ahead - a score which would have been healthier had Tom Gilbert’s try been given.
A Bromley penalty levelled things up, but after huffing and puffing Matt Brown’s kick caused a Bromley mistake and Jonny Ordidge made them pay by handing off three defenders to score his fourth try in four matches.
Giles Barber was then sin binned, and two Bromley penalties gave them a one point lead. But Horsham were not to be denied and late scores from Aitken and Neal Holden gave them a bonus point win which moves Horsham fourth.
