Youth basketball: Young Hawks take flight

An emphatic second period saw six different players on the scoresheet as Horsham Hawks basketball club’s under-11s recorded a 49-39 defeat of Henfield Heat.

The first quarter ended 20-20 but the Hawks’ passing and defensive work rate saw them go on an 18-2 run.

Head coach David Clayton said: “Back in Easter when we began putting this team together there were only three players that had played competitive basketball. I am so pleased with the incredible work rate and commitment the team give. It is great to see the players enjoying their basketball and growing in skills and confidence.”

Points: Josh Lea-Clayton 12, Robert Hartley 10, Molly Shaw 8, Joe Kershaw 6, Tommy Collins 4, Charlotte Willcox 2, Amy Willcox 2, Matt Kingsford 2, Joshua Tavolieri 2, Amber Hutchinson 1
