Youth basketball: Young Hawks begin to soar

Horsham Hawks under-11s emphatically beat Brighton Cougars 79-9 last week after building on a big half time lead.

Solid defence and rebounds gave Hawks the edge, as they assembled a 32-3 half time advantage.

A further 22 points in the third quarter saw the Hawks extend the lead to 54-5 before closing the game with a further 25 points in the fourth period.

During one stage, the Hawks racked up an impressive 40 unanswered points.

Head Coach David Clayton said: “The team spirit within this group of players is fantastic and they work so hard for each other. For a team made up of 8-11 year olds that are relatively new to the sport, it is great to see them enjoying their competitive basketball, growing in confidence and each having the drive to want to keep improving.”

Scorers: Charlotte Willcox, 18, Josh Lea-Clayton, 16, Tommy Collins, 15, Matt Forster, 14, Amber Hutchinson, 8, Matt Kingsford, 4, Amy Willcox, 2, Josh Tavoleiri, 2.
