Cormac Whelan overcame soaked fairways and six temporary greens to score 42 stableford points on his way to victory in Mannings Heath’s Goodfellowship Cup.

The New Year’s Day competition attracted 70 members, with nine handicapper Whelan two points clear of Brian Uttley and Martin Lumbard, who took second place on countback.

Elliott Webster retained the Trevor Watts Cup as best junior just a few days after claiming the section’s 2012 Order of Merit crown. Having won the trophy playing off ten last year and now with a handicap of four he carded 31 points to finish just ahead of George Atkinson and Jack Holmwood on 30.
