Ron beats freezing conditions at Mannings Heath

Mannings Heath GC Waterfall course

Mannings Heath GC Waterfall course

Frozen greens tested patience and skill as Ron Uttley’s 36 stableford points proved good enough to win the latest Mannings Heath Turkey Trot.

With nobody able to better nett par, Ron finished a point clear of Richard Turner and two ahead of Peter Thomas in Saturday’s competition.

It was just as tough on Sunday, as 14-handicap Nigel King carded eight pars to win with 35 points. Rene Ventura ran him close with 34 which included four blanks and three birdies for second on countback from Colin Gibson and Phil Hare.

Thursday saw the ladies enjoying a fun stableford event, with double points being scored on the five holes with the lowest stroke indexes. Mina Burton posted 41 points in the silver division, two clear of Pat Etheridge and Lesley-Anne Collins-Powell.

Meriel Jolley led the bronze returns with 38 points with Joyce Watson and Barbara Warburton next best on 29 and 26 respectively. Elsewhere, Heath’s seniors earned their second CLAWS winter league victory, 4-1 at home to Leatherhead.
