Mickel shines at Donington Park
FAYGATE racing driver John Mickel was cruelly denied a third podium place at the end of a superb weekend in the latest of the Legends series.
Having finished second in the first two races at Donington Park, John was caught up in a first corner pile up in race three, having to settle for 17th.
The weekend started brilliantly, as John was pulled from the hat to start from pole in race one. But thanks to the rolling start, the leading competitors behind him were able to race nose to tail and slip streamed him to leave John seventh by the end of the first lap.
The former Nascar racer spent the rest of the race picking off the drivers in front of him, and had climbed to second with a last lap move by the chequered flag.
With a reversed grid for race two, John started from the back and made an excellent start. It wasn’t long before he was in the leading pack, and thanks to a final lap coming together between the two leaders, he was able to nip in and claim second, narrowly behind the winner. And in race three, John was caught up in some first corner carnage. He managed to limp to the pits and re-emerged two laps down before guiding his RSCapp/MTS legend home in 17th.
