Horsham Darts round-up: Roffey trio march into shock final

JPCT-CTSPORT Roffey CC Darts

JPCT-CTSPORT Roffey CC Darts

Roffey CC led the shocks as the Horsham Darts League doubles and trebles champions crashed out of thie year’s competition.

At a packed Roffey Club, both reigning champions saw their defences fail, and there will be a new name on both trophies at the end of the season.

The final of the doubles, which attracted 35 pairs, will be contested by The Railway’s Ian Homewood and John Dawes and Cliff Prior and Dan Waller of Roffey S&SC B.

Ian and John came through a preliminary round test against Horsham C&SC pair Graham Light and Ray Weale of Horsham C&SC, then dispatched their Horsham clubmates, Tom Hogsflesh and Arran Ottley.

A second round defeat of Kings Arms’ ray Bulbeck and Andy Bollans set-up a quarter final against Roffey S&SC B pairing Andy and Sue Mason.

Ian and John’s fourth straight 2-0 win brought them face to face with defending champions Joe Davis and Adam Hart - and although they dropped their only leg of the night, marched into the final.

They will play another pair from Roffey S&SC B, Dan Waller & Cliff Prior, who won through without dropping a leg with wins over pairs from Roffey S&SC A, Roffey S&SC C, team mates Roffey S&SC B and in the semi final Alan Sturt and Lee Burlton of The Cat & Canary.

In the trebles, Second Division Roffey CC trio of Nick Dunn, Mark Pavlovic & Andrew Smallwood pulled off a few shock wins on their way to the final, including the defeat of defending champions Adam Hart, Joe Davis and Andy Mason along the way.

In the final the Roffey trio will play Alan Wyatt, Ron Clarke and Terry Thornton of Roffey S&SC B.

During the evening nine maximums were hit, two each for Joe Davis, Andy Mason amd Tony Peters, plus apiece for Gareth Syverson, Graham Light and Clive Pearce.
