Horsham coach happy with progress

Horsham coach Paul Johnson conceded his side have to be more clinical as they remain unbeaten in the England Hockey League.

It took an individual piece of skill from Suzy Clapp to unlock the Bromley & Beckenham defence in last Saturday’s East Conference clash, despite Horsham spurning ten short corners.

it looked like Horsham would have to settle for a third straight draw before Clapp fired in the winner late on against the bottom-of-the-table club.

“It was an important game to win on Saturday, I said to the girls it doesn’t matter how, just get three points,” said Johnson. “It was tight and nerve-wracking with all the chances we had but it keeps us up there with distance between us and the bottom teams.

“We’re not going to get ten short corners every game so we need to be more clinical. It’s a great goal-scoring chance.”
